Blueberry Bourbon Barbecue Sauce

This Blueberry Bourbon Barbecue Sauce blends fresh blueberries with bourbon, red onion, garlic, and jalapeño for a sweet, smoky, and mildly spicy flavor. The sauce simmers until thickened and is partially blended to balance smoothness with texture. It keeps refrigerated for up to two weeks, making it a useful condiment for grilled meats or roasted dishes.

Description

The Blueberry Bourbon Barbecue Sauce features a combination of fresh blueberries, bourbon, and spices for a distinctive barbecue condiment. The red onion and garlic are softened in olive oil before adding jalapeño for gentle heat. Bourbon is boiled off to mellow the flavor, then the berries, ketchup, vinegar, brown sugar, molasses, and allspice are added. Simmering reduces and thickens the sauce, concentrating the flavors.

Part of the sauce is pureed, then stirred back in to combine smoothness with some berry texture. The finished sauce balances fruity sweetness, smoky bourbon notes, tangy vinegar, and subtle spice from jalapeño and allspice.

Store the sauce chilled for up to two weeks. It can be served alongside grilled or roasted meats, enhancing barbecued dishes with a complex fruity and savory profile.
