Blueberry Brie Grilled cheese
Description
This sandwich layers smooth, melting Brie cheese with fresh blueberries and optionally sharp cheddar between butter-coated bread slices. Grilling on a skillet creates a crisp, golden crust while warming the filling until the cheese melts and berries soften slightly.
The blueberries impart bursts of sweetness and a slight tang that contrasts with the mild richness of Brie and the optional sharpness of cheddar. The buttered bread grills until crisp outside and tender inside, making this a textural contrast-rich snack or light meal.
The sandwich serves well as a lunch option or an elevated comfort food snack. Variations can include substituting other soft fruits like strawberries or blackberries, and adding prosciutto or thinly sliced ham for salty complexity.
Ingredients
- 4 lices bread such as Sara Lee® Artesano™ bread, thick sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 4 ounces Brie cheese sliced
- ½ cup blueberries blackberries or strawberries
- 2 ounces cheddar cheese sliced, optional, sharp
Instructions
- Heat a skillet over medium heat.
- Butter bread and place two slices butter side down in the skillet. Top with brie.
- Add berries and cheddar. Top with the second slice of bread, butter side out.
- Cook 3-4 minutes per side or until bread is golden and cheese is melted.
Notes
- You can substitute blueberries with other berries or thin slices of peaches, pears, or apples for different fruit flavors.
- Adding about 2 ounces of prosciutto or thinly shaved ham provides a savory contrast to the sweet fruit and creamy cheese.
