Blueberry Moscow Mule
Description
This cocktail starts with a blueberry simple syrup made by simmering fresh or frozen blueberries with sugar, water, and optionally fresh ginger, then straining the mixture to create a fruity, sweet base. The syrup adds depth to the drink while maintaining the blueberry’s natural flavor.
In a copper mug, fresh blueberries are muddled to release juice and combined with vodka, ginger beer, lime juice, and the simple syrup. The ginger beer lends spiciness and carbonation, balancing the syrup’s sweetness, while lime juice adds acidity and brightness. The drink is served over ice to keep it chilled and garnished with fresh mint, lime wedges, and whole blueberries for contrast and aroma.
This variation offers a colorful and aromatic cocktail option, enhancing a classic mule with fruity notes and natural sweetness. It can be prepared in batches ahead by making the syrup and mixing the non-carbonated ingredients, then adding ginger beer just before serving.
The simple syrup keeps refrigerated for at least two weeks, allowing for extended use. For a mocktail, omit vodka and increase ginger beer for a similarly flavored non-alcoholic option.
