Blueberry Syrup

Blueberry Syrup highlights fresh blueberries cooked with granulated sugar and water until softened and reduced into a syrup. Straining removes solids, resulting in a smooth, sweet syrup that captures the natural berry flavor. It is versatile for use on pancakes, desserts, or drinks and preserves well in the refrigerator.

Description

Blueberry Syrup is made by boiling blueberries with sugar and water, then simmering until the berries break down. The mixture is strained through a fine mesh to separate the smooth syrup from blueberry solids. This simple method yields a clear syrup with concentrated blueberry flavor and sweetness from white sugar.

The syrup can be stored refrigerated for up to two weeks. It is suitable as a topping for pancakes or ice cream, or as a mixer in beverages. The recipe notes that frozen blueberries can be used after thawing, and alternative sweeteners like honey or agave are compatible.

For thicker syrup, adding a small amount of cornstarch or xanthan gum can improve viscosity. The syrup can also be frozen in sealed jars for longer storage. These details make it a practical homemade fruit syrup.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 cups Blueberry
  • 1 cup granulated sugar white, 200g
  • ¾ cup water

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a pot. Stir it together, bring to the boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes, until the blueberries break down.
  2. Place a fine mesh strainer over a bowl or jug and pour in the mixture. Press the blueberries into the strainer to extract as much blueberry syrup as possible.
  3. Allow the mixture to cool, then pour into a sanitized jar or bottle and keep in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

  • Frozen blueberries should be completely thawed before cooking for best results.
  • Sweeteners like honey, agave, or coconut sugar can replace granulated sugar.
  • To thicken the syrup, add a small amount of cornstarch mixed with water or xanthan gum.
  • For freezing, leave space in the container as the syrup expands; thaw in the fridge overnight before use.
