Boiled Cabbage Recipe

This Boiled Cabbage Recipe prepares tender cabbage wedges enhanced with melted butter, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. The cooking method gently simmers cabbage until soft, then finishes by seasoning with fresh parsley and lemon juice for brightness. It’s a straightforward, comforting vegetable side dish.

Description

The recipe starts by rinsing a medium cabbage head, removing outer leaves, and cutting it into six wedges. These wedges are simmered in lightly salted water in a deep skillet or Dutch oven, covered, until tender—approximately 16 to 20 minutes total, flipping halfway through.

After cooking, the water is drained off and the pan is returned to low heat to evaporate residual moisture. Melted butter is then added and the cabbage is gently tossed to coat evenly. Seasonings including salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and fresh lemon juice brighten the flavor.

The dish is finished with fresh parsley and additional lemon wedges on the side for optional extra acidity. This method produces tender, buttery cabbage with a hint of spice and citrus, suitable for serving as a vegetable accompaniment with a range of meals.
