Bourbon Glazed Honey Ham
Description
This recipe involves baking a spiral ham partially covered with foil over chicken broth and orange slices, which helps keep the ham moist and imparts subtle citrus notes. The ham is heated through at a moderate temperature ensuring even warmth and tenderness.
The bourbon glaze combines sweet elements like honey and brown sugar with fresh orange juice, butter, and warm spices such as allspice, cinnamon, ginger, and clove. Reducing the glaze concentrates the flavors and thickens the mixture. Applying half of the glaze before a brief broil caramelizes the sugars, adding a shiny and flavorful crust.
The resulting dish pairs well as the centerpiece of a meal served at gatherings or holiday dinners where glazed ham is traditional. The orange and spice notes brighten the richness of the ham, and the glaze adds moisture and sweetness.
