Bourbon Vanilla Cider Cranberry Sauce

Bourbon Vanilla Cider Cranberry Sauce combines fresh cranberries with sugar, bourbon, apple cider, and a split vanilla bean. The sauce is simmered until the berries soften and the mixture thickens, resulting in a tangy, slightly sweet condiment with warm vanilla undertones and a subtle bourbon kick. It adds a rich depth to holiday meals or roasted dishes and can be served warm or cold.

Description

This Bourbon Vanilla Cider Cranberry Sauce starts with fresh cranberries cooked gently with sugar, bourbon, apple cider, and split vanilla bean. As the mixture simmers, the berries break down and thicken the sauce, delivering a balance of tartness from the cranberries and sweetness from the sugar and vanilla. The bourbon adds a mild warmth without overpowering the sauce. Leaving the vanilla bean in through serving intensifies the vanilla flavor. The sauce can be reheated and stored in the refrigerator, where it thickens further, making it a versatile addition to roasted or grilled meat dishes.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 Cranberry 12 ounce bag, fresh
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup bourbon
  • 3 tablespoons apple cider
  • 1 vanilla bean split

Instructions

  1. Combine the cranberries, sugar, bourbon, apple cider and split vanilla bean in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir the ingredients together. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it bubbly and simmer for about 15 minutes, until the cranberries begin to break down and the mixture thickens. Remove it from the heat and let it cool to thicken even more.
  2. I like the leave the vanilla bean in until serving, just for extra vanilla bean flavor! You can reheat this to serve it and it stays great in the fridge.
