Bratwurst Casserole Recipe
Description
The recipe involves pan-cooking bratwurst sausage slices until golden brown, then sautéing quartered mushrooms in the same skillet for flavor. Small diced potatoes are browned with oil and salted, followed by adding cooked sausage slices back in. Finely diced red bell peppers and green onions are mixed in along with shredded mozzarella or Mexican cheese.
The combined ingredients are placed in a baking dish, covered, and baked at 350°F first to meld flavors and heat through, then uncovered for a short time to brown the cheese and finish cooking. The casserole delivers a mix of textures — tender sausage, soft browned potatoes, and melted cheese — with savory, slightly sweet notes from the peppers and onions.
This hearty casserole is suitable as a main dish for casual meals and pairs well with simple side salads or crusty bread. It offers a full-flavored, one-dish meal using bratwurst and common vegetables.

- 1 cup cheese mozzarella or Mexican cheese, shredded

- Dice the potatoes into small pieces. Brown them in the same skillet with a little bit of oil. Season to taste with a little bit of salt and add them to the bowl with the mushrooms.
- Cut the sausage into rings and cook them on a skillet until the sides begin to brown. Add them to the bowl with the potatoes and mushrooms.
- Dice the bell peppers and green onions into tiny pieces and stir them into the bowl with the sausage and veggies. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
- Stir in the shredded cheese and place all the ingredients into a baking dish. Cover the dish with a lid and let it bake at 350°F for about 15 minutes.
- Remove the lid and bake the casserole for another 5 minutes. Serve right away and enjoy!
