Breakfast Casserole with Bacon

This Breakfast Casserole with Bacon combines eggs, cream, cream cheese, and sharp cheddar with crispy bacon to create a rich, custardy bake. The egg mixture sets with a tender texture, with pockets of cream cheese adding creaminess throughout. The sharp cheddar cheese and crumbled bacon add savory notes and a bit of texture contrast. It is a hearty dish suitable for breakfast or brunch, and can be prepared ahead for convenience.

Description

This casserole uses extra-large eggs mixed with heavy cream to form a rich, creamy base. Half of the cheddar cheese is incorporated in the egg mixture before baking, delivering a subtle cheesy flavor throughout, while cream cheese cubes are scattered on top to melt into soft pockets during baking. The dish is baked first for 35 minutes, then topped with remaining cheddar and crispy crumbled bacon before returning to the oven until the center is set. This layering creates texture contrast between the tender center and the flavorful topping.

The seasoning is mild with salt and black pepper, allowing the bacon’s smokiness and the sharp cheddar’s tang to stand out. The casserole is suited to be sliced and served warm, making it a suitable option for family breakfasts or a brunch buffet. Its custard-like consistency pairs well with simple sides such as toast or fresh fruit.

This dish can also be prepared a day in advance by assembling through the cream cheese step and refrigerating, then finishing the baking later. Leftovers store well for several days or can be frozen for up to a month, making it practical for meal planning. Reheat gently to preserve texture.
