Breakfast Quinoa Oatmeal

Breakfast Quinoa Oatmeal offers a hearty alternative to traditional oatmeal by toasting quinoa and simmering it in unsweetened almond milk with maple syrup and a touch of salt. The result is a warm, slightly nutty cereal with a tender texture, which can be served topped with fruits or nuts. This basic recipe forms a versatile base for nutritious breakfasts.

Description

The recipe begins by thoroughly rinsing and draining the quinoa before lightly toasting it in a saucepan over medium heat to bring out its nutty flavor. Then almond milk, maple syrup, and salt are added and brought to a boil, followed by reducing the heat to a simmer to cook until quinoa is tender and the liquid is absorbed, about 15 minutes. The oatmeal is allowed to rest covered, enhancing texture. A microwave method is also provided for convenience.

The cooked quinoa results in a lightly chewy texture with a mild, sweet flavor from the maple syrup. It creates a creamy but grainy dish reminiscent of traditional oatmeal but with a unique nutty touch from the quinoa. This dish serves well as a warm breakfast cereal that can be customized with various toppings.

Leftovers store well in an airtight container for up to five days in the fridge and can be reheated with a splash of milk or water. The recipe recommends following ingredients closely but allows flexibility in milk and sweetener choices.
