Breakfast Strata Recipe with Sausage and Mushrooms

This Breakfast Strata features toasted ciabatta bread cubes combined with browned turkey sausage, sliced mushrooms, green onions, eggs, cheddar, and Parmesan cheeses, all soaked overnight in a milk and egg mixture spiced with paprika and salt. The result is a savory, baked custard casserole with layers of tender bread, sausage, and melted cheese.

Description

To prepare, ciabatta bread cubes are toasted until slightly crisp. Turkey breakfast sausage is cooked and crumbled while mushrooms are sliced. A custard mixture of milk, eggs, cheddar, Parmesan, paprika, and salt is whisked together, then combined with the bread, sausage, scallions, and mushrooms. This mixture is refrigerated covered to allow the bread to absorb the custard thoroughly.

Baked at 350°F for about 50 minutes, the strata sets into a golden-topped casserole with tender, flavorful layers. The paprika adds subtle warmth, and the mix of cheeses provides a sharpness and creaminess that complements the savory sausage. This dish serves as a hearty breakfast or brunch option.
