Broccoli Casserole with Ritz Crackers
Description
This casserole features frozen broccoli cooked and drained, combined with melted Velveeta cheese and butter to form a rich, creamy base. This mixture is spread into a casserole dish and topped with a crumb mixture made of crushed Ritz crackers, melted butter, and water, lending a crunchy and flavorful crust once baked. The assembly bakes at 350°F until the crumbs turn golden brown, about 20 minutes.
The overall texture contrasts creamy broccoli and cheese with a buttery, crisp topping. Velveeta cheese provides a smooth melt, and the buttery Ritz crackers add a characteristic soft crunch and savory note.
Fresh broccoli can be used as an alternative to frozen by blanching briefly and cooling before incorporating. This recipe relies on Velveeta for consistency and flavor; other cheeses have not been tested. One sleeve of Ritz crackers is sufficient for the topping.
