Broccoli Salad with Bacon
Description
This Broccoli Salad features finely chopped fresh broccoli mixed with diced red onion, dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, and crumbled cooked bacon. The ingredients come together with a dressing of mayonnaise blended smoothly with apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Once tossed, the dressing evenly coats the mix to provide a creamy yet tangy flavor that complements the natural crispness of the vegetables and crunch from seeds and bacon bits.
The salad combines savory and sweet elements, with the bacon adding smoky depth and the dried cranberries lending bursts of fruitiness. The sunflower seeds contribute additional nuttiness and texture, enhancing the overall mouthfeel. The salad does not require cooking aside from preparing the bacon, making it suited for a fresh and colorful addition to meals.
It can be served on its own, alongside grilled dishes, or as part of a picnic or potluck spread. The salad's balance of ingredients and sturdy textures help it stand up well to preparation ahead of time.
Notes suggest variations such as substituting raisins or dried cherries for cranberries, or swapping sunflower seeds with slivered almonds or roasted pumpkin seeds to adjust flavor and texture. Adding blue cheese to the dressing offers a tangier and richer flavor if desired.
