Brown Sugar Bacon Wrapped Smokies

Brown Sugar Bacon Wrapped Smokies are bite-sized smoked sausages wrapped in bacon and coated with a mixture of brown sugar and cayenne pepper. Baked until the bacon crisps and caramelizes, these appetizers offer a mix of sweet, smoky, and slightly spicy flavors with a crispy texture.

Description

This recipe involves cutting bacon into thirds and wrapping each mini smoked sausage, secured with a toothpick. Each is then rolled in a blend of brown sugar and cayenne pepper, which imparts a sweet heat that caramelizes during baking. The smokies are baked on foil-lined pans at a high temperature to crisp the bacon evenly without burning the sugar.

The result is a contrast between the savory smokiness of the sausage, the crisp salty bacon, and the sweet, slightly spicy glaze. These make convenient party appetizers or snacks and can be prepared in advance and frozen before baking.

Be sure to roll the sugar mixture onto the smokies before placing them on the baking pan to prevent burnt sugar deposits on the foil.
