Brown Sugar Bourbon Smash

The Brown Sugar Bourbon Smash is a cocktail blending bourbon with homemade brown sugar syrup and ginger beer, served over crushed ice and garnished with apple slices and a cinnamon stick. The drink balances sweet and spicy flavors, accented by the warmth of bourbon and the fizz of ginger beer. It's a flavorful mixed drink served chilled, highlighting the combination of brown sugar and cinnamon for a cozy touch.

Description

This cocktail starts with a syrup made by simmering brown sugar and water until the sugar dissolves. The syrup is combined with bourbon and poured over crushed ice in a glass. Topped with ginger beer, it adds a spicy effervescence that complements the rich sweetness of bourbon and syrup. Apple slices and a cinnamon stick garnish contribute mild fruity and aromatic notes respectively.

The method includes an optional cinnamon sugar rim achieved by rimming the glass with orange juice and dipping it into mixed coarse sugar and cinnamon, providing an extra layer of flavor and texture. The drink is served immediately after assembling, making it refreshing and fizzy.

Ingredients

Servings

bourbon smash

  • 1 ounce brown sugar simple syrup
  • 2 ounces bourbon
  • 2 ounces ginger beer
  • apple for garnish, sliced
  • cinnamon stick for garnish

brown sugar syrup

  • ½ cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Note: if you want to do a cinnamon sugar rim, I suggest rimming the glass with an orange wedge. I stir together coarse sugar and cinnamon, then dip the rim in!
  2. Fill a glass with crushed ice. Add the brown sugar syrup, then the bourbon. Stir it. Top it off with the ginger beer, the apple slices and cinnamon stick. Serve immediately!
