Brown Sugar Delicata Squash Recipe
Description
The Brown Sugar Delicata Squash Recipe uses whole delicata squash halved, seeded, and cut into fairly thick slices. Coated with a mixture of olive oil, maple syrup, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, salt, and pepper, the slices are arranged on a foil-lined baking pan coated with cooking spray. Roasting at 400 degrees Fahrenheit softens the squash flesh and encourages browning and caramelization on the outside.
The combination of maple syrup and brown sugar enhances the squash's natural sweetness, while cinnamon adds a subtle warm spice layer. The squash's tender texture contrasts nicely with the slightly crisp edges formed during baking. This preparation requires minimal ingredients and simple steps yet results in a flavorful vegetable side dish.
Serve this delicata squash as a complement to roasted meats or alongside salads and grains for a balanced meal. Its sweet and spiced profile pairs well with autumn or winter menus.
Select delicata squash that are even in color and heavier for their size, avoiding light green ones which indicate underripeness. The squash can be pre-cut ahead of time to ease busy meal preparation.
