Brown Sugar Pork Chops

Brown Sugar Pork Chops combine the savory taste of bone-in pork chops with a sweet and buttery glaze made from brown sugar, garlic, and Italian seasoning. Searing the chops creates a browned exterior, while finishing them in the oven with the sauce keeps them juicy and tender. The parsley and optional lemon wedges add fresh notes to this flavorful main dish that pairs well with simple sides.

Description

Brown Sugar Pork Chops feature pork chops seared in olive oil to develop a golden crust and seasoned simply with salt and pepper. A sauce made by melting butter with garlic, brown sugar, and Italian seasoning is spooned over the chops before baking them to an internal temperature of 145°F. This finish in the oven ensures the meat cooks through while absorbing the sweetness of the sauce.

The flavor balances the richness of butter and pork with the subtle sweetness of brown sugar and the herbal notes from Italian seasoning. Serving the chops garnished with fresh parsley and optional lemon wedges brightens the dish and adds a slight acidity to offset the richness.

These pork chops work well served with roasted vegetables or a fresh salad. The method requires an oven-safe pan for searing and baking, or transferring to a baking dish after browning if needed, which allows for layering the sauce and chops during baking for a moist result.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 4 pork chops bone in
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 teaspoons garlic minced
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon parsley chopped
  • lemon optional, wedges and sprigs for serving
  • parsley optional, wedges and sprigs for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Heat the olive oil in a large oven safe pan over medium high heat.
  2. Season the pork chops on both sides with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Add the pork chops to the pan in a single layer. Cook for 4 minutes on each side or until browned.
  4. Remove the pork from the pan and place on a plate. Cover with foil to keep warm.
  5. Add the butter to the pan and melt. Add the garlic, brown sugar and Italian seasoning and cook for 30 seconds, stirring constantly.
  6. Place the pork chops back in the pan and spoon the sauce over the top.
  7. Place the pan in the oven and bake for 10-12 minutes or until pork is cooked to at least 145 degrees F.
  8. Spoon the sauce from the bottom of the pan over the pork chops and sprinkle with parsley. Serve, garnished with lemon wedges and parsley sprigs if desired.

Notes

  • Use an oven-safe skillet to sear and bake the pork chops in the same pan for best results.
  • If you don’t have Italian seasoning, mix equal parts dried oregano, basil, and thyme as a substitute.
  • Transferring the chops to a baking dish after searing is fine if your pan isn’t oven safe.
  • Serving with lemon wedges adds a fresh acidity that balances the sweetness of the sauce.
