Buffalo Chicken Crescent Ring Recipe (Lightened up)
Description
This recipe begins by mixing Greek yogurt, softened light cream cheese, buffalo sauce, shredded chicken, sliced green onion, and half the feta cheese to create a flavorful, creamy filling. Crescent roll dough triangles are arranged in a ring with overlapping short sides forming a circle. The buffalo chicken mixture is placed on the wider end of each triangle, topped with remaining feta, then folded up and tucked under to enclose the filling, giving a sunburst appearance.
Baked at 375°F until golden brown, the crescent dough creates a flaky, slightly crisp crust around the moist, spicy filling. The feta cheese adds a salty tang that complements the buffalo sauce's heat.
To store leftovers, allow the ring to cool completely before slicing and refrigerating in airtight containers. It freezes well when wrapped individually and stored in an airtight bag for up to four months. Reheating can be done in an air fryer for a crusty exterior or in the oven or microwave if preferred. This makes it suitable for make-ahead meals or party appetizers.
Ingredients
- 2 crescent rolls 8-oz. cans
- 3/4 cup Greek yogurt plain, 170g
- 4 oz. cream cheese softened, light
- 1/3 cup buffalo sauce Frank's brand, 80g
- 4 cups chicken I used my Basic Shredded Chicken, shredded, 400g
- 1 cup feta cheese fat free, 112g
- 1 green onion plus more to garnish, sliced
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and/or spray with cooking spray.
- Add the yogurt, cream cheese and buffalo sauce to a large bowl and mix until combined. Then mix in the shredded chicken, green onion, and half of the feta cheese.
- Unroll both cans of dough and separate into 16 triangles. Arrange the triangles in a ring on the baking sheet so the short sides of triangles form a 5-inch circle in the center. Dough will overlap. Dough ring should look like the sun.
- Add the chicken mixture on the half of each triangle closest to the center of the ring. Top with the remaining feta cheese.
- Bring each dough triangle up over filling, tucking dough under the bottom layer of dough to secure it. Repeat around the ring until the entire filling is enclosed (some filling might show a little).
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the dough is golden brown. Let cool for 5 minutes before slicing.
Notes
- For gluten-free versions, use gluten-free crescent roll dough or alternative gluten-free pastry.
- Dairy-free adaptations can be made by substituting with dairy-free Greek yogurt, cream cheese, and feta cheese alternatives.
- Cool thoroughly before slicing and store in an airtight container; it keeps well refrigerated.
- Individually wrap pieces with plastic wrap or foil for freezing; keeps up to 4 months frozen.
- Defrost overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
- Reheat in an air fryer at 390°F for 5-6 minutes for a crisp exterior, or use the oven or microwave as alternatives.
