Buffalo Chicken Dip

Buffalo Chicken Dip combines shredded chicken with a melty blend of cream cheese, hot sauce, butter, garlic powder, and ranch dressing to create a creamy, spicy appetizer. The dip features a smooth texture with bold flavors from the cayenne-based hot sauce and a mild tang from ranch. It's typically served warm and topped with crumbled blue cheese for added richness and texture.

Description

This dip brings together cooked shredded chicken and a sauce made by melting butter into hot sauce, then incorporating cream cheese and ranch dressing until smooth and creamy. Garlic powder adds subtle depth. The chicken is stirred into the sauce and heated through without boiling to preserve the creamy consistency. Optional crumbled blue cheese on top adds a tangy contrast to the spicy, rich dip.

The result is a velvety, thick dip with a balance of heat, creaminess, and savory chicken pieces throughout. It serves well for parties or casual gatherings, offering a warm and flavorful snack that pairs with chips, crackers, or veggies.

Using any vinegar-based cayenne hot sauce allows flexibility in heat level and flavor profile, making it easy to adjust the dip according to taste preferences.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1/2 cup hot sauce $1.26, Frank's RedHot Sauce
  • 4 Tbsp butter $0.60
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder $0.05
  • 8 oz. cream cheese $2.19
  • 2 Tbsp ranch dressing $0.25, buttermilk
  • 3 cups chicken $4.00, cooked, chopped
  • 1/4 cup blue cheese $1.00, crumbled, optional

Instructions

  1. Add the hot sauce, butter, and garlic powder to a small saucepot. Stir and cook over medium until the butter has melted and combined with the hot sauce.
  2. Cut the cream cheese into chunks and add it to the sauce pot along with the ranch dressing. Stir and whisk over medium until the cream cheese has melted and created a smooth and creamy sauce.
  3. Add the chopped chicken to the saucepot and stir to combine. Stir and cook over medium just until heated through. Be careful not to let the dip boil.
  4. Taste the dip and adjust the heat (hot sauce) or any of the other flavors to your liking. Transfer to a bowl and top with crumbled blue cheese, then enjoy!

Notes

  • Any vinegar-based cayenne hot sauce can be substituted to adjust the heat and flavor.
