Buffalo Shrimp Salad

Buffalo Shrimp Salad pairs sautéed shrimp coated in buffalo sauce with fresh leafy greens, tomato, celery, and red onion. Topped with ranch dressing, blue cheese, and green onion, the salad combines spicy, creamy, and crisp elements for a satisfying meal with vibrant textures and bold flavors.

Description

This Buffalo Shrimp Salad centers on shrimp cooked quickly in butter or oil, then tossed in tangy buffalo sauce. The shrimp remain tender and juicy, with the sauce adding a spicy, slightly tangy coating. The salad greens and chopped vegetables provide crunch and freshness, balancing the heat and richness of the shrimp.

Toppings of ranch dressing mellow the spice while creamy blue cheese crumbles add a savory, tangy finish. Optional green onion adds mild sharpness and color. The combination creates a layered flavor experience with varied textures from tender shrimp, crisp vegetables, and creamy dressings.

Serving can be customized by adding other vegetables like shredded carrot or cabbage to increase volume and nutritional variety. This salad works well as a light lunch or dinner and can be adjusted in spice level by modifying the amount of buffalo sauce used.

Use fresh raw or thawed shrimp and precise cook times to avoid overcooking. Cooking the shrimp just until opaque and curled ensures tenderness. The vinaigrette-style ranch complements the spicy shrimp, creating balance in each bite.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 6-8 oz Shrimp thawed if frozen, raw, peeled, cleaned
  • 4 cups leafy salad greens
  • ½ cup tomato chopped
  • 2-3 TBSP celery chopped
  • 2-3 TBSP onion red, chopped
  • ½ TBSP butter for sauteing
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • 3-4 TBSP buffalo sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • 2-4 TBSP ranch dressing
  • 2 TBSP green onion totally optional, chopped
  • 2 TBSP blue cheese crumbled

Instructions

  1. Set prepped shrimp in the fridge, covered, while you chop your veggies and salad greens.
  2. Wash lettuce and chop veggies. Set aside.
  3. Heat a large pan or skillet to medium-high heat with 1/2 of butter or oil sauté your shrimp. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cook on each side for about 2 minutes until shrimp curl and become opaque. The cook time will depend on the heat setting you choose and the size of your shrimp, but regardless they’ll be perfectly cooked in a matter of minutes.
  4. Add Buffalo sauce while the pan is still hot and mix to coat. To thicken sauce, allow shrimp to simmer in sauce for approx 1-2 minutes.
  5. Divide salad greens and veggies between two bowls and top with saucy shrimp. Drizzle with ranch dressing and top with chopped green onion and blue cheese crumbles. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Add shredded carrot or cabbage to increase vegetable variety and texture in the salad.
  • Adjust buffalo sauce amount to control spice level based on taste preferences.
  • Ensure shrimp are cooked just until opaque and curled for optimal tenderness.
