Butter Burgers
Description
This recipe begins by incorporating softened butter directly into the ground beef to add moisture and richness to the patties. After seasoning and chilling, the patties are cooked in a skillet while sweet onions are sautéed separately in butter until tender and browned. This step develops sweetness and depth to complement the beef.
The burgers are cooked to a medium doneness, flipped once, and then topped off with additional butter, the cooked onions, and a slice of American cheese to melt from the residual heat. Placing the patties on toasted buns ensures a slight crunch and prevents sogginess, with the melted butter and cheese adding a creamy coat.
Best served immediately to retain warmth and texture, these burgers deliver a straightforward approach to enhancing the beef flavor with butter and caramelized onions. Separating storage of components is recommended if keeping leftovers to preserve texture and freshness.
Ingredients
- 8 Tablespoons butter softened and divided, salted
- 1 onion chopped, medium sweet
- 1 pound ground beef 90/10 lean
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 Hamburger Bun toasted
- 4 lices American cheese
Instructions
- Mix 2 Tablespoons of the butter into the ground beef.
- Divide the beef into 4 even patties. Season with the salt and pepper. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add the chopped onions to the skillet and sauté until tender (approximately 5-7 minutes). Reduce the heat on the skillet to look and cook for 3-4 minutes until browned.
- Transfer the onions to a separate plate.
- Place the patties into the skillet and cook for 4-6 minutes without moving the patties.
- Flip the patties and cook on the other side for 4-6 more minutes until the patties are cooked through.
- Turn off the heat, top each patty immediately with 1 tablespoon of butter each, ¼ of the sautéd onions and a slice of the cheese. The heat from the pattes should melt the butter and the cheese.
- Remove from the skillet and place on the toasted buns.
- Serve immediately while warm and enjoy!
Notes
- Serve Butter Burgers immediately while warm to enjoy the optimal texture and melted cheese.
- Leftovers can be stored for up to 5 days in the refrigerator if the onion, patties, and buns are kept separately to maintain quality.
