Butter Dip Buttermilk Biscuits

Butter Dip Buttermilk Biscuits are tender, golden-brown squares baked atop a layer of melted butter that creates a rich, buttery crust. The dough combines flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and buttermilk to produce a moist and slightly fluffy texture. Cutting the dough in the pan before baking yields perfectly portioned biscuits with crisp edges and soft centers, ideal for breakfast or as a side.

Description

Butter Dip Buttermilk Biscuits are prepared by mixing a dough made from flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and buttermilk, which is sticky and poured into a baking dish coated with melted butter. The butter beneath the dough melts during baking, infusing the bottoms of the biscuits with flavor and helping to form a golden crust.

Before baking, the dough is cut into nine squares directly in the pan using a butter-coated knife to prevent sticking. Baking at 450°F for 20-25 minutes develops a golden brown color with slightly crisp edges, while the interiors remain soft and moist due to the buttermilk content.

These biscuits are best served warm for breakfast or alongside meals. Their buttery crust and tender crumb make them a versatile accompaniment to gravies, jams, or honey.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1/2 cups butter (1 stick) melted
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 3/4 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450F.
  2. Pour the melted butter into the bottom of an 8x8-inch baking dish.
  3. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add the buttermilk and stir until the dough forms (it will be very sticky). Scoop the dough into the baking dish on top of the butter and spread out evenly.
  4. Use a knife to cut the dough in the pan into 9 squares. Tip: dip the knife in the melted butter along the sides of the baking dish to make it easier to cut the dough without it sticking to the knife.
  5. Bake the biscuits at 450F for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly before serving.
