Butter Garlic Herb Steak Foil Packets

Butter Garlic Herb Steak Foil Packets combine marinated sirloin steak cubes with seasonal vegetables such as red potatoes, carrots, and bell peppers wrapped in foil with a flavorful garlic herb butter. The packets lock in moisture and infuse the steak and vegetables with fresh herbs like rosemary, thyme, and parsley. Cooking can be done on a grill or baked in the oven, allowing the meat to stay tender and the vegetables to become tender-crisp. The finishing touch offers a slightly charred, aromatic meal in individual portions.

Description

This recipe assembles sirloin steak pieces alongside a selection of fresh vegetables including quartered red potatoes, carrots, red and green bell peppers, and red onion chunks. The vegetables are lightly seasoned with salt, pepper, and olive oil before layering on foil sheets. A compound butter made from room-temperature butter mixed with minced garlic, fresh parsley, rosemary, thyme, salt, and pepper is portioned atop the steak pieces within the foils. The foil packets are folded to trap steam during cooking.

The method allows for either grilling or oven baking. On the grill, packets cook covered for about 15 minutes, developing tender steak and soft vegetables. Alternatively, baking in a 400°F oven for 25-30 minutes achieves similar results, with optional broiling at the end to produce a slight char and added texture on the surface.

The garlic herb butter melts throughout cooking, imparting an herbal, buttery flavor throughout the meat and vegetables. This dish serves as a straightforward, portion-controlled meal with minimal cleanup. Flipping the packets at the end of grilling can increase charring and flavor depth.

The foil packets can be served directly, offering an easy way to enjoy steak dinner with vegetables without extra dishes.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 pound red potato cut into fourths, small
  • 2 medium carrot sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper cubed
  • 1 green bell pepper cubed
  • 1/2 red onion cut into cubes
  • salt
  • black pepper
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 1/2 pound sirloin steak cut into one inch cubes, top

Garlic Herb Butter:

  • 1/2 cup butter room temperature
  • 1/4 cup parsley freshly chopped
  • 4 garlic minced, cloves
  • 1 teaspoon rosemary chopped, fresh
  • 1 teaspoon thyme chopped, fresh
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a medium sized bowl add the red potatoes, carrots, bell peppers, and red onion. Add salt and pepper and toss with olive oil.
  2. Place four 18x12-inch pieces of heavy aluminum foil on the counter. Evenly place the vegetable mixture on each piece of foil. Top vegetables with steak.
  3. To make the garlic herb butter: In a small bowl add the butter, parsley, garlic, rosemary, thyme, salt, and pepper. Divide evenly and place on top of the steak. Double fold the top and ends of each piece of foil, leaving space for steam to gather.

To Grill:

  1. Place packets on the grill and cover. Grill 15 minutes or until steak is cooked through and veggies are tender. Carefully open packets and serve.

To Bake:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Unwrap and broil right at the end to give the steak a slight char.

Notes

  • Cooking the steak and vegetables together in foil packets locks in flavor and keeps meat tender.
  • Flipping the packets over onto the flame at the end gives a slight char to both steak and vegetables for added texture.
  • You can use either an outdoor grill or an oven to cook these packets, adjusting time as needed for tenderness.
  • Using fresh herbs in the garlic butter enhances the aroma and complements the steak’s richness.
