Butter Garlic Mushrooms
Description
Fresh mushrooms are cooked in melted butter over medium heat and initially cooked covered to soften. Minced fresh garlic, salt, onion powder, black pepper, and dried oregano are then added and cooked further, allowing the flavors to meld and the garlic to infuse the butter. The mushrooms become tender yet retain a slight bite with a rich garlic aroma.
The dish finishes with a garnish of chopped fresh parsley or cilantro for brightness. It is served immediately to preserve the buttery sauce and tender texture. This preparation works well as a side or topping for steaks, chicken, or pasta.
Butter may be substituted with unsalted versions by adjusting salt accordingly. If using dried oregano, a quarter teaspoon is used, but fresh oregano can substitute at four times the amount. Mushrooms should be cleaned gently by brushing or rinsing and patting dry to prevent excess moisture.
Ingredients
- 1 lb mushrooms
- 4 tablespoons salted
- 6 cloves garlic minced, fresh
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon oregano dried
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper fresh ground
- parsley or cilantro, chopped, to taste
Instructions
- Heat a sauté pan or cast iron on medium and add butter.
- Add cleaned mushrooms after about all of about 1 tablespoon of butter has fully melted, stir to coat the mushrooms with melted butter and then cover.
- After 3 minutes, add garlic, salt, pepper, onion powder, and oregano. Mix, and cover and let cook for another 4 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve immediately.
Notes
- Use unsalted butter and add 1/8 teaspoon salt if preferred over salted butter.
- Substitute fresh minced garlic with 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder or 3 teaspoons dried garlic flakes if needed.
- Replace 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano with 1 teaspoon fresh oregano for brighter flavor.
- Clean mushrooms by brushing excess dirt off or rinsing briefly and patting dry thoroughly to avoid sogginess.
