Butterbeer
Description
The Butterbeer recipe starts with well-chilled cream soda combined gradually with butterscotch topping and butter extract to infuse a rich caramel and buttery flavor. The carbonation of the soda maintains a light fizz balanced by the sweetness of the butterscotch. A whipped cream topping made by beating heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla adds a smooth, creamy layer that contrasts with the fizzy base.
Serving in frosted mugs enhances the cold experience while adding extra butterscotch topping on the cream introduces additional flavor depth and visual appeal. The suggested gold star sprinkles add a decorative touch. The layered textures and flavors recall the iconic beverage from popular culture and offer a sweet, indulgent treat.
Butterbeer is best enjoyed freshly prepared to preserve the soda’s carbonation. If prepared in advance and refrigerated, the soda will lose fizz though flavor remains. Alternative syrups like caramel can substitute butterscotch if necessary. The whipped cream can be replaced with ice cream for a float-style dessert. This drink suits casual gatherings or special themed events.
Ingredients
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 3 Tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract pure
- 2 liters Cream Soda well chilled
- 2/3 cup butterscotch topping plus more for topping
- 2 Tablespoons butter extract
Instructions
- If you have glass mugs or decorate hurricane glasses for serving the butterbeer in, stick them in the freezer to become frosty.
- Beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until soft peaks form. Set this aside in the fridge to chill until ready to use.
- Make sure the cream soda is well chilled before starting. Pour about 1 cup into a large pitcher or punch bowl. Whisk in the butterscotch topping and butter extract. Gradually stir in the remaining cream soda until combined.
- Fill the individual frosty glasses or mugs with the whipped cream and drizzle with additional butterscotch topping. Ten points for Gryffindor if you have gold star sprinkles to sprinkle on top.
Notes
- Serve Butterbeer freshly made to enjoy its carbonation; refrigeration dulls the fizziness though flavor persists.
- If butterscotch syrup is unavailable, caramel syrup can serve as a substitute.
- The whipped cream topping may be replaced with a scoop of ice cream to create a Butterbeer float variation.
- Chill glasses or mugs beforehand for an enhanced chilly presentation.
