Buttered Noodles

Buttered Noodles features cooked egg noodles tossed in melted butter, garlic powder, fresh parsley, and optional Parmesan cheese. The dish is simple yet flavorful, with a soft texture and subtle garlic and herb notes. It serves as a comforting side or base that pairs well with various main dishes.

Description

Buttered Noodles is a straightforward pasta preparation using dry egg noodles cooked al dente in salted water. Reserving some pasta cooking water before draining allows adjustment of the sauce consistency. The noodles are then returned to the pot, where butter and garlic powder are melted and combined, coating the pasta evenly.

Fresh parsley adds a bright herbal note, while optional grated Parmesan cheese introduces a savory, slightly nutty flavor. Black pepper and additional salt can be added to taste. The gentle tossing blends the ingredients, resulting in noodles that are tender with a buttery richness and hint of garlic.

This simple side complements many meat, vegetable, or sauce-based dishes. It can be quickly assembled and adjusted in flavor to suit the accompanying meal.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 8 ounces egg noodles measured dry
  • 3 tablespoons butter salted
  • 2 teaspoons parsley chopped, fresh
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • teaspoon black pepper or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Parmesan Cheese optional, shredded
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the egg noodles, reduce the heat to a low boil, and cook the pasta al dente according to the package directions.
  2. Before draining the pasta, reserve ¼ cup of pasta water. Drain the pasta well, but do not rinse.
  3. Place the pot back on the stove over medium heat and melt the butter and garlic powder.
  4. Stir the cooked noodles, parsley, parmesan cheese if using, and pepper. Toss to coat and season with additional salt if desired. Stir in a tablespoon or two of pasta water can be added to reach desired consistency.

Notes

  • Do not rinse the noodles after cooking to ensure the butter sticks well to the pasta.
  • Add more Parmesan cheese as desired to enhance the flavor depending on the main dish served.
