Homemade Butterscotch Sauce is a quick and easy treat made in less than ten minutes. It’s a silky smooth sauce with flavors of brown sugar and butter, and is delicious on ice cream, pie, and so much more.

Ingredients
- 1 cup light brown sugar packed
- ½ cup butter unsalted
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- pinch kosher salt about 1/8 teaspoon
Instructions
- Add brown sugar, butter, and heavy whipping cream to a heavy-bottomed saucepan.
- Whisk until smooth over low heat. STOP STIRRING and bring to a gentle boil.
- Cook for 3-4 minutes.
- Remove from heat. With a clean whisk, stir in vanilla extract and salt.
- Let cool at room temperature until refrigerating.
Notes
- Storage: Pour butterscotch sauce into an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for no more than 2 weeks. The sauce will thicken upon refrigeration. It can be reheated in the microwave at 10-second intervals, stirring in between, or on the stove top over low heat.
- Using a heavy-bottomed saucepan is recommended.
- Recipe makes about 1 1/2 cups of butterscotch sauce.
