Cafe Rio Creamy Tomatillo Ranch Dressing

This Cafe Rio Creamy Tomatillo Ranch Dressing blends ranch seasoning with fresh tomatillos, cilantro, jalapeño, and lime juice for a bright, slightly spicy dressing. The combination produces a tangy, creamy condiment that complements salads, vegetables, or chips with a blend of ranch's familiar flavors and Mexican-inspired freshness.

Description

The Cafe Rio Creamy Tomatillo Ranch Dressing brings together a packet of Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning mix with mayonnaise and buttermilk to create a creamy base. Fresh tomatillos and jalapeño add a tangy and mildly spicy element, while cilantro and lime juice provide brightness and herbal notes.

Blending all ingredients until smooth results in a dressing with a balanced flavor profile that can be adjusted for thickness by varying the buttermilk quantity. The inclusion of jalapeño with or without seeds controls the level of heat, accommodating taste preferences. The dressing works well for salads needing a fresh kick or as a dip for raw vegetables and tortilla chips.

Chilling the dressing for at least an hour allows the flavors to meld and intensify. Using original ranch mix rather than buttermilk variation ensures the characteristic ranch seasoning flavor. The recipe is convenient and versatile for Southwestern or Tex-Mex inspired meals.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 (1-ounce) packet Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning original, not buttermilk
  • 1 cup mayonnaise Best Foods brand
  • 1 cup buttermilk (If you like a thicker dressing only use 1/2 cup)
  • 2 tomatillo husked and diced
  • ½ bunch cilantro fresh
  • 1 clove garlic peeled
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice fresh
  • 1 jalapeño stem removed

Instructions

  1. Add all the ingredients to a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth. Chill for 1 hour.
  3. Serve as a dressing over salad or as a dip for veggies and chips.

Notes

  • For a thicker dressing, reduce buttermilk to half a cup instead of one cup.
  • Remove jalapeño seeds to mellow the heat if desired; leaving seeds increases spiciness.
