Cajun Wings Recipe

This Cajun Wings recipe uses baking powder and a Cajun seasoning blend to achieve crispy, flavorful chicken wings. The wings are first dried and coated with baking powder and seasoning, then cooked by air frying or oven baking for a crispy texture without deep frying. The method includes flipping the wings and adjusting temperature to ensure they cook through evenly and reach a safe internal temperature. The seasoning imparts a spicy, smoky flavor typical of Cajun cuisine, making these wings a savory snack or appetizer option.

Description

Cajun Wings Recipe combines simple ingredients—chicken wings, baking powder, and Cajun seasoning—to create a dish with crispy skin and spicy flavor. The baking powder helps to dry out the skin and encourage crisping during cooking. The wings are prepared by first cutting into flats and drumettes, coating with the baking powder and Cajun spices, then cooked either in an air fryer or oven. The air-fryer method starts at 360°F for 18 minutes, then increases to 400°F for an additional 6 minutes after flipping, while the oven method bakes at 400°F for 40 minutes with a flip mid-way. Pork safety is assured by checking the internal temperature of 165°F. The result is a spicy, crunchy wing with tender meat inside.

These wings work well as an appetizer or paired with dipping sauces. The seasoning suits those who enjoy bold and spicy flavors. The air fryer option offers a quicker alternative to oven baking with similarly crisp results.

The notes provide tips for using frozen wings, advising not to apply seasoning before cooking and adjusting cook times and temperatures accordingly. Baking powder is omitted for frozen wings to ensure proper texture. This flexibility allows the recipe to accommodate fresh and frozen wings effectively.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 pounds chicken wings
  • 1 Tablespoon baking powder
  • 2 Tablespoons Cajun seasoning

Instructions

  1. If your chicken wings aren't cut apart, cut them into flats and drumettes. Discard the wing tips.
  2. Pat the wings dry with paper towels and put them in a large bowl.
  3. Add the baking powder to the mixing bowl and toss the wings to mix.
  4. Add the Cajun seasoning and toss to mix.

Air Fry

  1. Put the chicken wings in an air fryer basket, making sure not to overcrowd them. Keep them in a single layer.
  2. Air fry at 360 degrees F for 18 minutes.
  3. Flip them oven, increase the air fryer heat to 400 degrees F, and air fry for 6 more minutes.
  4. Make sure the wings have reached an internal temperature of 165 F.

Oven Baking

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. Put the wings on racks on parchment paper or foil-lined baking sheets. Spray them with a little nonstick cooking spray. Bake in a preheated 400 F oven for 40 minutes, flipping them over halfway through the cooking time.
  3. Make sure the wings have reached an internal temperature of 165 F.

Notes

  • For frozen wings, do not add baking powder; add Cajun seasoning after partially cooking.
  • Air fry frozen wings at 360°F for 26 minutes, flipping after 15 minutes, then increase to 400°F for 6 more minutes.
  • Always verify wings reach an internal temperature of 165°F before serving.
