Ingredients
- 200 grams cake or all purpose flour
- 50 grams icing sugar
- ½ tsp baking powder
- 30 grams soft butter
- 1 egg
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tbsp rum
- Zest of 1 orange
- pinch of salt
- 4 tbsp water
- oil for frying
Instructions
- In a small bowl combine the flour with the icing sugar and baking powder.
- Add the salt and mix well.
- Add the butter, eggs, egg yolk, rum and orange zest.
- Mix well then add 1 tbsp of water at a time until a firm dough forms.
- Flatten to dough on a floured counter to a thickness of 5 mm.
- Cut the dough into rectangles, and with a knife make a cut in the center of each rectangle.
- Thread a corner inside the slit and stretch gently. Twist into shape.
- Heat the oil in a deep pan at 350 degrees.
- Fry the pastries for 2 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove from the oil and sprinkle with icing sugar. Serve!
