Campfire Chili Cheese Fries

Campfire Chili Cheese Fries combine frozen French fries cooked over a campfire or BBQ with chili and melted cheddar cheese, all prepared in a foil packet. The fries become tender but not crisp, coated in a warm, savory chili sauce and melted cheese, creating a hearty and convenient outdoor meal or snack.

Description

This camping recipe starts by placing frozen French fries in a foil packet sprayed with cooking spray, then cooking them over a campfire or BBQ until tender, about 15 to 20 minutes with occasional shaking to encourage even cooking. The fries won’t crisp like oven-baked fries but become soft and flavorful.

After cooking, chili is spooned over the fries along with shredded cheddar cheese. The packet is resealed and heated further until the cheese melts and chili warms through, coating the fries with savory layers. This method keeps the meal contained and warm in the outdoor setting.

The chili cheese fries are eaten directly from the foil, making them a rustic and satisfying campfire dish. The recipe embraces the natural texture changes from cooking fries without an oven, focusing on warmth and flavors rather than crispiness.

Since this is a camping-style dish, expect fries to be tender rather than crispy. It’s a treat suited for outdoor meals where convenience and taste take priority over texture.

Ingredients

Servings
  • one grams package French Fries frozen
  • one grams can chili your choice
  • 1-2 cups cheddar cheese shredded

Instructions

  1. Spray the inside of a large doubled-up sheet of foil with cooking spray.
  2. Place the frozen fries in the middle of the sheet; fold the aluminun foil up to enclose.
  3. Cook the fries on your BBQ or over a campfire until they are cooked - around 15-20 minutes. Shake the package occasionally to move the fries around, browning all sides.
  4. Open the package, careful of any steam escaping. Spread the chili and cheese over the fries.
  5. Close the packet again and cook until the chili is hot and the cheese has melted.
  6. Remove, cool slightly and enjoy! We just ate it with forks right out of the package!

Notes

  • This recipe yields a camping-friendly dish where fries will be tender rather than crispy due to cooking method.
  • Using a double layer of foil and cooking spray helps prevent sticking and eases cleanup while heating over fire or grill.
  • Enjoy the chili cheese fries fresh from the foil packet for convenience and rustic appeal.
