Candied Bacon Crackers
Description
To prepare, each thick bacon slice is cut into smaller pieces, then placed on club crackers arranged on a wire rack over a baking sheet. A mixture of brown sugar, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder is sprinkled evenly over the bacon. Baking at moderate temperature allows the bacon to crisp while coating it with a caramelized sugary layer, balancing smoky and salty elements.
The crackers remain crisp due to airflow under them on the wire rack, avoiding sogginess from bacon grease. Cooling briefly before serving helps the candied topping set. Provolone cheese slices are optional and not used in the cooking process as described.
This snack stores well refrigerated in an airtight container for several days and can be enjoyed chilled, at room temperature, or reheated carefully.
Ingredients
- 48 Club crackers
- 12 lices Bacon thick cut
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon salt Kinder’s "The Blend" seasoning blend
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 10 lices provolone cheese optional
Instructions
- Start by preheating your oven to 375°F. Grab an oven safe wire rack and a large baking sheet and place the wire rack on top of the baking sheet. Doing this will allow the bacon grease to drip off, while preventing the crackers from becoming soggy.
- Lay out your bacon onto a cutting board, and cut each piece into 4 even slices.
- Place the club crackers evenly on the wire rack. Leave about 1 inch of space in between each cracker.
- Place a slice of bacon on top of each cracker.
- Grab a small mixing bowl. Add the brown sugar and the salt, pepper and garlic rub to the bowl and mix to combine.
- Sprinkle even amounts of the brown sugar topping on top of each bacon covered cracker. Make sure the bacon is evenly coated.
- Bake these in the oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the bacon is crisp, yet tender, and the top is caramelized. Make sure to watch these carefully to ensure they don’t burn. Remove them from the oven and allow them to cool for 5 minutes. Serve and enjoy!
Notes
- Store leftover crackers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days to maintain freshness.
- These crackers can be enjoyed chilled, at room temperature, or reheated gently if desired.
