Candied Walnuts
Description
This recipe entails melting butter and granulated sugar together, then stirring in raw walnuts with a pinch of sea salt and optional spices like cinnamon and cayenne pepper. The mixture cooks over medium heat until sugar fully coats and caramelizes on the walnuts. The nuts are then spread out on parchment to cool and harden, producing a crisp candy shell.
The sugar coating offers a combination of sweet and slightly spicy notes balanced by the butter’s richness and salt’s enhancement. The texture is crunchy with a glossy, hardened surface. This method is straightforward and results in walnuts that are easy to make in small batches at home.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon butter unsalted
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup walnuts unsalted, halves or pieces
- ¼ teaspoon salt sea salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon optional
