Canned Salmon Salad
Description
This Canned Salmon Salad mixes drained and mashed canned salmon with mayonnaise and Dijon mustard to create a creamy base. Lemon juice and zest add brightness, while chopped celery provides crunch. Capers and red onion contribute tang and sharpness, balanced by fresh dill for an herbal note.
The salad is prepared by combining all ingredients and seasoning with salt and black pepper to taste. It makes enough filling for four sandwiches and can be customized by adding lettuce, tomato, cucumber, or sliced cheese. The salad keeps well in the refrigerator for three to five days.
The recipe is forgiving and adaptable: ingredients can be omitted or substituted to accommodate personal taste or pantry availability, and the quantity can be halved if needed.
Ingredients
- 2 (5 ounce) salmon drained, canned
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice and zest of 1/2 lemon
- 1 tick celery chopped small
- 1-2 tablespoons capers drained & chopped
- 1-2 tablespoon red onion chopped small
- 1 tablespoon dill chopped, fresh
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Drain the salmon and add it to a bowl. Mash it with a fork. Prep the other ingredients and add them to the bowl, then mix it all together. Taste and season with salt & pepper/adjust ingredients as needed.
- This recipe makes enough for 4 sandwiches (try adding some lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and/or sliced cheese to each sandwich). This canned salmon salad will keep in the fridge for 3-5 days.
Notes
- The recipe can be halved by using one can of salmon and adjusting other ingredients accordingly.
- If some ingredients are disliked or unavailable, they can be omitted or substituted without compromising the salad significantly.
