Caprese Crostini (Canapes)

Caprese Crostini features toasted baguette slices topped with fresh mozzarella and tomato slices, baked until the cheese melts slightly. A fresh basil mixture marinated briefly in balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil is spooned on top just before serving. This appetizer offers a combination of warm mozzarella, juicy tomato, and the bright, aromatic flavor of basil with a subtle tang from the balsamic, providing a bite-sized, flavorful snack or starter.

Description

The preparation begins by slicing a baguette into half-inch thick rounds that are lightly brushed with extra virgin olive oil and toasted to create a crisp base. Each toast is topped with slices of fresh mozzarella and Roma tomato, then seasoned with salt and pepper before baking again until the cheese softens and melts. To finish, basil is thinly sliced and tossed in a mix of balsamic vinegar and olive oil, which is spooned onto each crostini after baking. The result is a warm crostini with a creamy melted cheese layer, fresh tomato juiciness, and a bright, herby finish from the marinated basil and balsamic. This snack offers contrasting textures and simple but layered flavors characteristic of Caprese ingredients.
