Caribou Cold Brewed Coffee at Home
Description
The Caribou Cold Brewed Coffee recipe uses Caribou brand coffee grounds combined with roasted chicory granules to create a distinctive cold brew coffee concentrate. Grinding the coffee coarsely ensures proper steeping without over-extraction. The mix is steeped in water between 14 and 24 hours to extract flavors gradually, providing control over strength and taste.
After steeping, the coffee grounds and chicory are removed, leaving a brewed concentrate ideal for chilled coffee beverages. This method produces a smooth, mellow coffee with the unique addition of chicory flavor notes.
Keeping the brew refrigerated maintains freshness and flavor over several days. Adjusting steeping time allows customization of coffee intensity according to preference.
Ingredients
- 1 gallon water
- ¾ cup coffee ground, Caribou brand
- ½ cup Chicory roasted, granules
Instructions
- Grind coffee beans for 5 seconds. Stop and shake it around. Grind for 3 seconds. Boom perfectly coarsely ground.
- Add the ground coffee and roasted chicory granules to the metal filter in the jar. Fill with water.
- Let steep for 14-24 hours; how long you should steep will depend on your personal preference. If this is your first time cold brewing, you might want to taste at intervals to determine your preference as the coffee will get stronger in flavor the longer it steeps. Remove the metal filter with the used coffee grounds and chicory when it has finished steeping to your liking.
- Keep refrigerated.
Notes
- Coarse grinding and shaking the coffee during grinding promotes even particle size for balanced extraction.
- Steep coffee and chicory from 14 to 24 hours; longer steeping increases coffee strength.
- Store brewed coffee in the refrigerator to keep it fresh.
- Remove grounds and chicory after steeping to avoid bitterness.
