Carolina Mustard BBQ Sauce Recipe (Carolina Gold)

This Carolina Mustard BBQ Sauce, known as Carolina Gold, features a smooth blend of yellow mustard, honey, brown sugar, and apple cider vinegar for a balance of sweet and tangy notes. Additional ingredients like ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and spices provide depth, and a dash of hot sauce adds mild heat. It’s a versatile sauce suitable for brushing on grilled meats or serving as a dip.

Description

The Carolina Mustard BBQ Sauce blends yellow mustard with sweeteners including honey and brown sugar, combined with apple cider vinegar for acidity. Ketchup and Worcestershire sauce contribute complexity and savoriness, while garlic powder, cayenne pepper, and salt season the sauce to balance heat and flavor. The sauce is whisked together and simmered to meld the ingredients, then cooled and refrigerated to develop flavors further.

The finished sauce has a smooth, juicy-tart taste with a mild spice level, characteristic of the Carolina Gold style. It is adaptable as a condiment for grilled meats or as a dipping sauce.

It yields about two cups and benefits from resting refrigerated for at least a day. Warming before serving enhances its aroma and consistency.
