Ingredients

Servings
  • 4 russet potato app 3 lbs - sliced
  • 1 white onion thinly sliced
  • 4 tbsp butter divided
  • 4 cloves garlic crushed
  • 2 tbsp steak seasoning
  • 1 tbsp thyme chopped, fresh
  • 1 tbsp rosemary chopped, fresh

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Slice the potatoes and onions. (A mandolin is great for this, but if you don’t have one, slicing them with a knife will work as well.)
  3. Melt 2 tbsp butter in a 12 inch cast iron skillet over medium heat.
  4. Place a layer of potatoes, slightly overlapping, on to the melted butter.
  5. Combine the steak seasoning, thyme and rosemary in a small bowl.
  6. As you go, layer onions and sprinkle seasonings and one clove of crushed garlic over each layer.
  7. Continue layering the potatoes, onions and seasonings.
  8. Once filled to the top (should be about 5 layers) slice the additional 2 tbsp of butter into cubes and place on top of the potatoes.
  9. Place in the oven for 40-45 minutes.
