Description
The Chai-Spiced Instant Pot Pear Applesauce combines peeled and cored apples and pears cooked under pressure with brown sugar, lemon juice, and aromatic chai spices including cinnamon, vanilla, ginger, cardamom, and cloves. The Instant Pot quickly softens the fruit, allowing the flavors to meld and develop a balanced sweetness with spicy warmth.
The cooked fruit can be mashed or pureed to your desired consistency. Removing some fruit pieces before blending results in a chunkier texture, while blending the entire batch yields a smooth sauce. The spices add a subtle layer of complexity to the natural sweetness of the pears and apples.
This applesauce is a comforting accompaniment to meals or can be enjoyed on its own as a nutritious snack. Its mildly spiced flavor also works well as a topping for oatmeal, yogurt, or pancakes.
Ingredients
- 4 apple peeled, cored, and cut into large chunks (I use Fuji and Pink Lady, medium
- 4 pear peeled, cored, and cut into large chunks, medium
- 1 tsp. lemon juice
- 5 tsp. brown sugar
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- ½ tsp. ground ginger
- ½ tsp. ground cardamom
- ½ tsp. cloves ground
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in an Instant Pot. Secure the lid and cook on high pressure for 8 minutes.
- For a chunkier sauce, use a slotted spoon to remove half of the apple and pear chunks. Use an immersion blender to puree the remaining fruit and then stir in reserved fruit chunks (alternately, you can cool the mixture and puree in a blender or food processor). For a thinner sauce, do not remove any fruit before pureeing.
