Champagne and strawberry ice cubes

Champagne and strawberry ice cubes combine fresh sliced strawberries with sparkling wine to create festive, flavorful ice that chills drinks without diluting them immediately. The frozen strawberries add both a burst of color and gentle fruitiness, while the champagne or other sparkling wine imparts a lively, crisp character as it slowly melts. These ice cubes enhance cocktails, sparkling water, or chilled wine with a subtle sweetness and elegant presentation, especially when made in decorative molds.

Description

The recipe calls for filling ice cube trays with fresh, ripe strawberries cut into slices or dice, then carefully pouring sparkling wine such as champagne, cava, prosecco, or even sweeter options like Moscato or Riesling, over the fruit. The trays are frozen until solid enough to unmold, typically 4 to 6 hours. Because of alcohol content, the cubes freeze less solidly than plain water ice but remain functional for chilling beverages.

Using these ice cubes can add a visual and flavor dimension to drinks, imparting subtle strawberry and sparkling wine notes. They’re particularly suited to summer drinks, celebrations, or whenever a touch of elegance is desired. Shape molds in themes like hearts or stars can add an entertaining element.

This preparation is simple yet effective, allowing customization through choice of sparkling beverage and fruit size. They are best used soon after freezing for optimal texture and flavor appearance.

Ingredients

  • strawberries sliced or diced, ripe fresh
  • champagne cava, prosecco, brut - can also use a sweeter wine like Moscato or Riesling, or your choice of sparkling wine
  • Ice cube molds or trays can use regular cube molds or shapes like hearts, stars, etc

Instructions

  1. Fill the ice cube trays with the diced or sliced strawberries.
  2. Carefully pour the sparkling wine over the fruit into the trays.
  3. Freeze for about 4-6 hours or until solid enough to remove (exact time will vary based on the temperature of your freezer). The champagne ice cubes will not freeze 100% the way water would, but should be solid enough to remove and use in drinks.
