Cheddar Bacon Chicken Tenders
Description
This recipe features raw chicken tenderloins seasoned with garlic salt, onion salt, and black pepper, then dipped into beaten egg and coated evenly with a mixture of panko breadcrumbs, finely shredded cheddar jack cheese, and crumbled cooked bacon. The combination of cheese and bacon within the breadcrumb coating gives the tenders a distinctive savory crunch.
Baked on a wire rack to allow air circulation, the chicken tenders turn golden brown and reach a safe internal temperature of 165°F. The texture is crisp on the outside while remaining tender and juicy inside.
Cheddar Bacon Chicken Tenders are suitable as a main dish served alongside favorite sides or as appetizers with ranch dip. Garnishing with chopped parsley adds a fresh note to the presentation.
Approximately 12 slices of bacon make the required 3/4 cup of crumbled bacon. To save prep time, you can substitute this with 3 ounces of real bacon bits.
Ingredients
- 14 ounces chicken tenderloin raw
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1 teaspoon onion salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 egg
- ½ cup panko bread crumbs
- ½ cup cheddar jack cheese finely shredded
- ¾ cup Bacon cooked and crumbed
- parsley chopped, for garnish
- ranch dip for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Heat the oven to 400 degrees F. Place a wire rack over a baking sheet. Spray the rack with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.
- Using half of the garlic salt, onion salt, and pepper season the chicken tenders all over.
- In shallow bowl, beat the egg. Stir together the panko, shredded cheese, crumbled bacon, and the remaining garlic salt, onion salt, and pepper in another shallow bowl.
- A dip chicken tender into the egg until coated. Let the excess dip back into the bowl. Then dip the tender into the breadcrumb mixture until it is evenly breaded all over.
- Place the breaded chicken tenders on the prepared wire rack. Spray the tops of the chicken tenders with a little more cooking spray.
- Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, until chicken is cooked through (165 degrees F internal temperature) and the bread crumbs are golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle with chopped parsley. Serve on a platter with ranch dip or a plate with your favorite sides for dinner.
Notes
- You'll need about 12 slices of bacon to yield 3/4 cup cooked bacon crumbles.
- To reduce preparation time, substitute 3 ounces of real bacon bits for cooked crumbled bacon.
