Cheddar Bay Biscuit Recipe
Description
This recipe combines a pre-made baking mix with shredded sharp cheddar and garlic to create flavorful biscuit dough. The biscuits bake quickly at a high temperature, developing a golden exterior while remaining tender inside. After an initial bake, they are brushed with a melted butter mixture infused with garlic and parsley, then returned to the oven briefly to set the topping and deepen the flavor.
The garlic and parsley butter adds a fresh and aromatic layer that complements the sharpness of the cheddar cheese. The baking mix provides structure while keeping the biscuits light. These biscuits are usually enjoyed warm and pair well with soups or as a snack.
Overmixing the dough can toughen the biscuits, so they should be mixed until just combined. Leftover biscuits can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator and are freezer friendly in both baked or raw dough forms. Reheating can be done in the oven or microwave to restore warmth and softness.
Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp butter melted
- 4 garlic minced, divided, cloves
- 1 Tbsp parsley fresh chopped
- 2 c. all-purpose baking mix we use Bisquick
- 1 c. cheddar cheese shredded
- 2/3 c. milk cold
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spray baking sheet with non-stick spray.
- In a large bowl combine biscuit mix, cheddar cheese and 2 cloves garlic. Stir in milk and mix.
- Drop batter by heaping spoonfuls onto cookie sheet. Should make about 12 biscuits. Bake 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile melt butter in frying pan and add the rest of the garlic and saute on low heat about one minute. Remove from heat and add parsley. Brush biscuits with melted butter mixture and bake five minutes longer or until gold brown on bottom.
Notes
- Mix the biscuit dough just until combined to avoid tough biscuits.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for 1-2 days, or refrigerated up to a week.
- Biscuit dough or baked biscuits freeze well for up to 3 months; thaw before reheating.
- Reheat biscuits wrapped in a paper towel in the microwave for 30-40 seconds or in a 350°F oven for 8-10 minutes.
