Cheddar Pecan Cheese Ring with Strawberry Preserves
Description
This recipe requires freshly grated sharp cheddar cheese combined with chopped toasted pecans, mayonnaise, finely grated onion, black and cayenne pepper. The mixture is worked together by hand and shaped into a ring on a serving plate or board. The ring is garnished with reserved toasted pecans on top and filled in the center with strawberry preserves from a small jar. Toasting the pecans enhances their nuttiness and texture, providing a crisp contrast to the creamy cheese mixture.
The ring can be made ahead and refrigerated to allow it to firm up, improving the ease of slicing and serving. It is recommended to bring the cheese ring to room temperature before serving to soften the texture and better distribute flavors. This cheese ring pairs well with assorted crackers as a finger food appetizer for gatherings or parties.
Using freshly grated cheese is important since pre-shredded cheeses often contain coatings that inhibit the mixture from binding properly. Regular mayonnaise contributes to the desired creaminess and binding quality.
