Cheese Board
Description
The Cheese Board centers on offering three to five cheese selections from different textures and milk types to ensure variety, such as soft Brie and firm aged Parmesan. Alongside the cheese are flavored spreads like fig jam, honeycomb, and wholegrain mustard plus fresh fruits like grapes, apples, cherries, and crunchy vegetables like cucumber and heirloom carrots to add color and freshness. Nuts like Marcona almonds provide additional texture and flavor contrast.
Carb options include toasted baguette slices, flatbread crackers, or pretzels to serve as vehicles for cheese and spreads. The board is arranged by first placing large anchor items such as a Brie wheel and bowls of jams or olives, then filling in with cheeses and fillers, layering and overlapping as needed to cover the entire surface. Fresh herbs add a final garnish for color and aroma.
Guests can customize each bite combining salty, sweet, creamy, and crunchy elements. The selection and arrangement encourage exploration and varied taste experiences. This board is ideal for entertaining as it requires minimal cooking but thoughtful assembly for balance and appeal.
To keep fruits like apples and pears from browning, briefly toss slices with lemon juice before placing on the board. Having extra crackers and sliced bread on hand allows replenishing the board during the event. This setup can be prepared shortly before serving or partially assembled earlier with refrigerated ingredients covered properly.

Instructions
- Select your board, then create an anchor point on the center with something you’d like to have the spotlight (a wheel of Brie works well).
- Using bowls or cups of jams, mustards, cherries, and/or olives, create four more anchor points in the quadrants of your board.
- Using your desired cheeses, fruits, and other ingredients, fill in the gaps from one corner to the center, then around the edges.
- Repeat in all four quadrants. Layer and overlap when needed; step back to view the board from afar to spot any slim spots.
- Fill in the gaps with crackers, toasted baguette slices, and nuts. Garnish with herbs, and tuck in forks, spreaders, tongs, and other utensils where needed.
Notes
- Include cheeses with diverse textures and milk sources (cow, sheep, goat) to satisfy different tastes.
- Cheese categories can be soft (Brie, Camembert), semi-hard (Manchego, Roquefort), and firm (Cheddar, Parmesan).
- Complement cheeses with spreads like fig jam, honeycomb, and wholegrain mustard to add sweetness and tang.
- Fresh fruits such as grapes, cherries, and apple slices add color and balance flavors; toss apples with lemon juice to prevent browning.
- Include crunchy vegetables such as cucumber and heirloom carrot slices for additional texture and variety.
- Use toasted baguette slices, crackers, or pretzels as carriers for cheese and accompaniments.
- Arrange the board starting with center anchor points, then fill in gaps while layering ingredients for visual appeal.
- Keep utensils like spreaders and tongs nearby for easy serving.
