Cheese Bread (Quick Bread)

Cheese Bread (Quick Bread) is a savory loaf made with all-purpose flour, baking powder, and a mix of cheddar and Parmesan cheeses. The inclusion of green onion adds a mild sharpness that complements the cheesy flavors. The dough is lightly sweetened and enriched with butter, eggs, and milk to create a tender crumb with a slightly crisp crust. Baking in a loaf pan produces a bread that's great alongside soups or as a snack.

Description

This Cheese Bread (Quick Bread) combines sharp cheddar and Parmesan cheeses with green onion for a savory flavor. The body of the bread is tender due to the balance of baking powder as leavening and the addition of butter, eggs, and milk. The dough is mixed just until moistened to avoid toughness, then baked in a greased loaf pan at 350°F until a toothpick comes out clean, resulting in a golden crust. The slight sweetness from sugar contrasts the savory elements, giving subtle complexity.

The bread slices well for serving alongside warm dishes or can be enjoyed plain as a quick snack. The texture is soft with a faint tang from the baking powder and a hint of heat from cayenne. The cold butter cut into the flour ensures small pockets that help lighten the crumb.

Store the bread in an airtight container at room temperature and consume within four days to maintain freshness and softness.
