Cheese Sauce for Pretzels

Report
This cheese sauce combines butter, flour, milk, and shredded cheddar to create a smooth, creamy topping ideal for pretzels. The sauce thickens on the stove and melts the cheese in at the end, resulting in a velvety texture and a rich, cheesy flavor balanced by a touch of salt. It is designed to be served immediately warm, providing a perfect dip or drizzle for soft pretzels or similar snacks.

Description

Cheese Sauce for Pretzels starts with a butter and flour roux cooked briefly to form a paste, which is then gradually combined with whole milk and cooked until thickened. Removing it from heat, shredded cheddar cheese and salt are whisked in until fully melted and smooth. The sauce delivers a thick yet creamy consistency, ideal for dipping or coating pretzels. It is best served right away to maintain its smooth texture but can be stored refrigerated for up to a week.

The method emphasizes careful whisking to avoid lumps and gradual addition of milk to achieve the desired thickness. The use of whole milk and cheddar cheese creates a flavorful and nourishing sauce without added ingredients. Adjust thickness by adding more milk if needed after cooking.

To use, serve the sauce alongside warm pretzels for dipping or drizzle over them for a gooey finish. Leftovers can be refrigerated and gently reheated, stirring to restore smoothness before serving again.
