Description

This recipe starts by boiling shell pasta until tender. Meanwhile, bacon is cooked in a large pan until crisp and set aside, leaving a small amount of rendered fat. Ground beef is then browned in the pan and seasoned with salt and pepper. Finely chopped onion is cooked with the meat until softened. A mixture of tomato sauce, ketchup, and yellow mustard is stirred in, coating the meat thoroughly to create a flavorful base.

The drained pasta is added to the pan and combined with shredded cheddar cheese, which melts through the warm ingredients, creating a creamy, cheesy texture binding the components. Ingredients

  • 8 ounces shell pasta
  • 6 lices Bacon diced
  • 1 pound ground beef I use 90% lean
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 16 ounces tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese shredded
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup pickle diced
  • 1 tablespoon parsley chopped

Instructions

  1. Cook pasta in salted water according to package directions.
  2. Place the bacon in a large pan over medium high heat. Cook for 5 minutes or until bacon is browned and crisp.
  3. Remove bacon from pan and set aside. 
  4. Drain off most of the fat from the bacon, leaving approximately 2 teaspoons in the pan.
  5. Add the ground beef to the pan and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Cook, breaking up the meat with a spatula, until browned, 4-5 minutes.
  7. Add the onion and cook for an additional 4 minutes, or until onion has softened.
  8. Add the tomato sauce, ketchup and mustard to the pan. Stir to coat the beef with the sauce.
  9. Drain the pasta and add it to the pan with the beef mixture.
  10. Add the cheddar cheese to the pan with the pasta; stir until everything is combined and cheese is melted.
  11. Sprinkle with reserved bacon, pickles and parsley, then serve.
