Cheeseburger Pizza
Description
Cheeseburger Pizza begins with homemade pizza dough, which is rolled out and partially baked at 450°F to create a firm crust. The sauce blends ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise to mimic the tangy qualities of a burger condiment base. Ground beef is cooked and crumbled, removing excess grease before layering on the pizza with chopped onions and sliced dill pickles. Mozzarella cheese is added both under and over the toppings to melt and bind the ingredients during the final baking.
The pizza bakes again for 8 to 12 minutes until the cheese is melted and the crust edges are golden. The mix of beef, cheese, and pickles replicates cheeseburger flavors in pizza form, yielding a savory and slightly tangy dish with layered textures from the crisp crust and topping ingredients.
This pizza is suitable for family dinners or gatherings and can be customized with additional toppings such as cooked bacon, different cheeses, or fries. It can be prepared ahead with the dough and toppings assembled in advance or frozen, with reheating instructions provided for convenience.
Ingredients
- 1 recipe pizza dough (makes 2)
- 1 lb ground beef lean
- 5-6 cups mozzarella cheese shredded
- 2/3 cup dill pickles sliced coins
- 1/3 cup onion chopped
For the cheeseburger pizza sauce:
- 2/3 cup ketchup
- 1/3 cup mustard
- 1.5 Tablespoons mayonnaise
Instructions
- Make the pizza dough.
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Roll out/stretch pizza dough and pre-bake the dough for 6 minutes.
- Cook ground beef in a skillet over medium heat, browning and breaking up into small pieces until it's cooked through. Remove grease.
- Combine pizza sauce ingredients in a small bowl.
- Spread sauce on pre-baked pizzas. Sprinkle a small amount of cheese on top of the sauce. Sprinkle ground beef and onion on top of the cheese and spread desired number of pickle slices on the pizza. Top with additional cheese. Bake for 8-12 minutes
Notes
- Pizza dough can be fully prepared and pre-baked ahead of time, then refrigerated before topping and baking.
- Assembled pizzas freeze well for up to two months; bake from frozen, adding extra cooking time.
- Consider topping with precooked french fries before baking for added texture.
- Add hot sauce to the pizza sauce or drizzle on the finished pizza for extra heat.
- Supplement toppings with cooked bacon, peppers, different cheeses, or onion rings to vary flavor.
