Cheesy Bacon Crescent Rolls
Description
Cheesy Bacon Crescent Rolls consist of soft crescent roll dough filled with a mixture of softened cream cheese, blue cheese crumbles, crumbled cooked bacon, and diced green onions. Pressing the crescent roll perforations closed creates a smooth surface to spread the filling evenly before rolling up tightly. Slicing the rolled dough produces individual pinwheels that bake into golden rolls with a creamy, savory, and smoky interior.
The melted butter brushed on top helps achieve a glossy, rich crust while baking. Baking the rolls in a casserole dish keeps sides soft where they touch, but baking individually on a baking sheet can add crispiness all around. The combination of cheeses balances tanginess and richness against the salty bacon and mild green onions.
These rolls make a flavorful snack, appetizer, or party finger food. They can be made ahead by preparing the filling or baking the rolls in advance and reheating just before serving. Managing the amount and cooking of bacon affects the overall saltiness and texture.
For smaller batches, ingredients can be halved. Storing leftovers properly in an airtight container in the refrigerator keeps them fresh for several days.
Ingredients
- 8 ounce cream cheese softened
- 5 ounces blue cheese crumbles
- ¾ cup Bacon approximately 9 slices of raw bacon, cooked, crumbled
- ¼ cup green onions diced
- 16 ounces crescent roll dough 2 cans – 8 rolls each
- ¼ cup butter melted
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Add a softened block of cream cheese to a large mixing bowl. I recommend setting the cream cheese on the counter to soften for 15-20 minutes before starting this recipe. If you need to soften it quickly, place it in the microwave for 20 seconds.
- Add the blue cheese crumbles, crumbled bacon and diced green onions to the bowl with the cream cheese. Stir until everything is combined.
- Roll out both cans of crescent roll dough and press the perforations together.
- Spread the cheesy bacon mixture evenly over the crescent roll dough, leaving just about 1 inch around the edges.
- Starting with the short side of the dough, roll up each sheet of crescent roll dough tightly over the cheese mixture.
- Use a serrated knife to slice each roll into 8, approximately 1 inch rolls (for 16 total).
- Arrange the rolls in a greased 9 inch x 13 inch baking dish.
- Brush the melted butter evenly on top of the rolls.
- Place in the oven and bake for 25-28 minutes, or until golden brown.
Notes
- The cheesy bacon filling can be prepared up to three days ahead and stored in the fridge for convenience.
- For extra crispiness on all sides, bake rolls individually on a parchment-lined baking sheet; reduce baking time to about 10-12 minutes in this case.
- These rolls reheat well in an air fryer or oven to restore crispness before serving.
- This recipe yields 16 rolls but can be scaled down to 8 rolls by halving the ingredients.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days; avoid room temperature storage due to dairy content.
