Cheesy Baked Asparagus Dip
Description
Cheesy Baked Asparagus Dip features a puree of tender, blanched asparagus combined with cream cheese, Parmesan, minced garlic, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, red pepper flakes, and parsley. The asparagus is quickly blanched to retain bright color and tenderness before pureeing to a smooth base. The cheeses and spices are folded into this puree to create a rich, flavorful mixture. Once transferred to a baking dish, the dip is topped with extra Parmesan and a light layer of panko breadcrumbs, then drizzled with olive oil to create a golden, crunchy topping after baking.
Baking at 350°F for 25-30 minutes melts the cheeses and crisps the breadcrumb layer, producing a bubbly, creamy dip with a textural contrast on top. The garlic and pepper flakes add gentle warmth and aroma, complementing the fresh asparagus flavor. Ideal for dipping with tortilla chips or crusty bread, this dip works well as a starter or party appetizer showcasing asparagus in a cheesy preparation.
The recipe allows for optional toppings like extra Parmesan, toasted breadcrumbs, or chopped artichoke hearts to add even more flavor and texture. Adjusting the seasoning after pureeing ensures a balanced taste before baking.
Ingredients
- ½ cup cream cheese
- ½ cup Parmesan Cheese grated
- 1 asparagus about 25 thin stalks with ends trimmed off, pureed, heaping cup
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp onion powder or dried onion
- ¼ tsp salt
- ⅛ tsp red pepper flakes crushed
- ⅛ tsp parsley dried or fresh
Instructions
- Preheat oven or toaster oven to 350 F.
- Trim the ends of your asparagus and blanch in a thin layer of boiling water for about a minute or so, just long enough to turn the stalks bright green and tender. Immediately plunge the spears in an ice bath or rinse with super cold water to halt the cooking process and then strain.
- Add them to the food processor and pulse to puree. You'll want one heaping cup of gorgeous green puree. Add smashed garlic, spices, and cheeses to the processor and pulse to whip ingredients together. Taste and adjust spices to taste.
- Move mixture to a baking dish and top with a little extra grated cheese and a thin layer of panko bread crumbs.
- Top with a barely there drizzle of olive oil and bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes or until golden and bubbly.
- Dive in with crunchy tortilla chips and your favorite dippers!
Notes
- Top with additional Parmesan cheese, toasted panko, or chopped artichoke hearts for extra texture and flavor.
- Blanch asparagus briefly and cool in ice water to preserve vibrant color and tenderness before pureeing.
- Adjust seasoning to taste after combining ingredients to achieve balanced flavors before baking.
